JA Solar 600W Solar Panel (JAM72D40-600/MB)

The JA Solar 600W Solar Panel (JAM72D40-600/MB) is a TOPCon bifacial panel converting 23.23% of the light that falls on it. A large-format panel - fewer of them for the same array, which means fewer rails, fewer clamps and less labour, provided the roof has the run for them.

Key Features & Specifications:

• 600 W at Standard Test Conditions - Power tolerance +3%, and 45 °C nominal operating cell temperature. Panels are measured at 1000 W/m² and 25 °C, which a roof in Gauteng sees on a cool clear morning and not much else - plan on somewhat less through the middle of a hot day.
• 144 Cells - Half-cut cells with a multi-busbar layout, which loses less to a shadow across one corner than an older full-cell panel does.
• Open-Circuit 52.79 V, Short-Circuit 14.04 A - At maximum power it sits at 44.85 V and 13.38 A. These four figures are what decide how many panels may go in a string and how many strings an MPPT input will take - a string designed without them is a guess.
• -0.29%/°C Temperature Coefficient - How much output is lost for every degree the cell rises above 25 °C. It is the figure that separates a panel that holds up on a hot afternoon from one that does not.
• Bifacial - The back of the panel produces up to 80% of what the front does, so light coming off a light-coloured roof or the ground is worth having. On a flush tile roof there is nothing behind it to catch, so the gain is small.
• 1500 V Maximum System Voltage - The ceiling for a whole string added together on the coldest morning, with a 30 A series fuse rating. Going over it is what damages an inverter input.
• Size and Weight - 2278 × 1134 × 30 mm, 31.8 kg. Worth measuring the roof against before ordering - the number of panels that fit is as often decided by the shape of the roof as by the size of the system.
