There is a reason for the silence. Every property is different, and a number on a web page can be held against you later. So the industry says "from R89 999" next to a system nobody would actually install, and you are three phone calls deep before anyone says a real figure.
We would rather you knew before you called. Everything below is a system we have costed, listed on this site, and install on Gauteng roofs every week. The figures are the complete job — equipment, protection, mounting, cable, earthing, labour and the Certificate of Compliance — including VAT.
What they are not is a quote. A long cable run from the board to the battery, a double-storey with no roof access, a tile roof that needs every bracket sealed individually — those move a number, and we find them on the site survey rather than on the invoice.

Three phase — a large home or a small business
Where the supply is three-phase, the inverter has to be too. Sized on the load across all three phases rather than the biggest one.

Off grid — no municipal supply at all
For a property with no connection, or where getting one quoted costs more than the system. Everything the property uses has to come from the array and the bank, so both are larger than a hybrid for the same house. Before you price one, check whether you actually need off grid — on a property with a connection, almost nobody does.

Per extra kWh of battery
Taking our own 5 kW systems from 10.2 kWh to 25.6 kWh adds about R73 000 — near enough R4 800 for every additional unit of storage. The battery is the single biggest lever on the price, and it is the one most often oversized. Decide what has to run after dark before you decide how big the bank is.
To step the inverter up
Going from a 5 kW to an 8 kW inverter on the same 25.6 kWh bank costs about R16 000, array included. Compared with the battery that is cheap headroom — which is why we size the inverter with room to grow rather than to the limit of what you draw today.
What the solar installation price includes
Every solar price on this page and on our packages page is the complete job. We list it out because a cheaper number almost always means one of these was left off, and you find out on the day.
- Inverter — Deye or Sunsynk, sized with headroom rather than to the limit
- Lithium batteries — sized on usable capacity, not the number on the box
- Solar panels and mounting — the kit that matches your roof: tile, IBR, corrugated or flat
- DC protection — combiner, breakers, surge protection
- AC protection board — the changeover and the essential-loads side
- Battery cable, lugs and fuses — sized to the rated charge current, not to habit
- Earthing — spike and bonding, the part most often skipped
- Delivery and installation — labour, consumables, trunking and fixings
- Certificate of Compliance — issued on completion
- Commissioning — settings, app set-up and a handover
When a quote comes in well under these figures
It usually can. The question is which line it came out of — and three of the four below are invisible from the driveway on handover day. This is not a warning about cowboys; these are the items a legitimate quote leaves off to win a price comparison, expecting you to never ask.
- The Certificate of Compliance Billed separately afterwards, or quietly not issued at all. Ask: is the CoC in this price, and who signs it?
- Battery cable and protection Cable sized to what was on the van rather than to the inverter's rated charge current, with a fuse that will not open before the cable does. Ask: what size is the battery cable, and what is it rated against?
- Earthing and bonding A spike and the bonding are an hour of work and a few hundred rand of material. They are also the first thing an insurer looks for. Ask: is an earth spike included, and is the array frame bonded?
- The AC protection board The changeover and the essential-loads split. Leave it out and the system technically works — until the day it has to carry the house on its own. Ask: is a new AC board included, or are we reusing the existing DB?
